WNC DRIVEWAY PAVING & RESURFACING
Heavy-Duty Mountain Construction

Residential & Commercial Hot-Mix Asphalt Paving

A standard flatland driveway install will fail in Western North Carolina within two seasons if it isn't engineered for elevation. Our paving process starts deep beneath the surface. We evaluate your soil composition, excavate organic material, and compact a dense aggregate base designed to prevent frost heaving during WNC winters. Whether you are building a custom home site in Hendersonville or paving a steep access road in Waynesville, we deliver smooth, seamless asphalt surfaces engineered for 20+ years of heavy mountain use.

Sub-Grade Stabilization

6" to 8" Crushed Stone Base Compaction

Western North Carolina mountain soils are rich in red clay and mica, which become spongy when saturated. Paving directly over uncompacted soil or thin gravel leads to immediate wheel rutting and alligator cracking.

Our paving crews excavate down to firm mineral sub-grade, roll out heavy-duty non-woven geotextile stabilization fabric where needed, and install 6 to 8 inches of North Carolina DOT-approved Aggregate Base Course (ABC / Crusher Run). This base is compacted with 5- to 10-ton vibratory steel-drum rollers to 95%+ standard Proctor density before hot asphalt is laid.

NC DOT Certified Mix Commercial high-density hot mix with 9.5B or 9.5C surface grading.
Slope Crown & Pitch 2% to 3% cross-slope to shed mountain rain before water penetrates.

Our 5-Step Mountain Paving Process

  1. 1
Soil Excavation & Grade Assessment: Laser transit evaluation of slope pitch, culvert needs, and organic topsoil removal.
  2. 2
Crushed Aggregate Base Placement: Spreading 6"-8" ABC crusher run stone in uniform lifts across the driveway footprint.
  3. 3
Mechanical Vibratory Compaction: High-frequency roller compaction locking angular aggregate into an unyielding stone foundation.
  4. 4
Hot-Mix Asphalt Application: Laying 2.5" to 3" compacted asphalt at 300°F using self-propelled tracked paving machines.
  5. 5
Shoulder Backing & Edge Compaction: Beveled 45-degree asphalt edges tamped and backed with crushed stone to eliminate edge breakage.
